Puppies, Smores and a Sleepover

After visiting at Tommy's parents house, we headed to visit his youngest brother Steve and his wife Dannea. They recently moved to Kileen for her first teaching job. The girls were so excited about the visit to their house and had been planning a sleepover.....without mom.....for months. The girls had a blast at their house. They were delighted to meet Major Winter and Oliver, Steve and Dannea's 4 month old puppies. The girls wore those puppies out quick and then spent the rest of the night snuggling them. The puppies retreated under the couch several times, but it never lasted long, before the girls drug them back out and into their laps. Addison even hesitated to open Christmas presents, because she didn't want to put Oliver down....her curiosity eventually won out and we had a great time opening gifts.

Gracyn is not about to share her Cheeze-Its with Steve. Smart girl....does he look like the kind of guy you would want to share food with?
Reagan claimed Major and Addison claimed Oliver. They stuck with the same dog the entire night.
Gracyn is trying to coax a puppy out from under the couch.
Reagan and Major all snuggled under the covers. She was just sure he needed a blanket.

Addison and Oliver
Steve had smores for dessert on his newly acquired fire pit. The girls were thrilled.

Reagan lit a few marshmallows on fire.
Precious Gracyn loved playing drums with Steve.
At the end of the night, I went way out of my comfort zone and said good-bye to my girls. They were in good hands and thrilled to get to spend the night with their aunt and uncle, I am just not used to leaving them! Steve built them a tent to sleep in, they stayed up way late, and they had a fun morning of crafts with Dannea the next day. She also took them to visit Steve at his work and to see her classroom. Mommy survived the night and was happy to reunite with my girls the next day. Steve and Dannea.....get ready, next year Gracyn will want to stay too.

Temple, Texas

Tuesday morning we loaded up from our hotel and drove yet another 2 1/2 hours south to Tommy's parents in Temple. Grandma and Grandpa were ready and waiting with a Christmas tree that needed decorating and lots of presents underneath it.

If you are noticing a trend here.....yes, with most of our family, the girls open their Christmas presents at Thanksgiving. It is just more fun doing it together, than sending them in the mail. However, if I keep pulling my girls out of school for Thanksgiving and bringing them to Texas to open Christmas presents, they may never learn about Pilgrims and Indians or the story of Thanksgiving.

Lexi dog, or Lucky dog as Gracyn calls her is always a big hit at Grandma and Pampa's house. The girls even have their own small pink leash to walk her with. Pampa just hooks her up to both her regular leash, which he holds and the pink one, which they hold. Not sure Lexi dog loves the set up, but you can imagine how much the girls like it.
Addison was even big enough this year to hold the main leash.
Big girl Gracyn taking her dog walking very seriously.

We had a great time at their house. We made a trip to Steve and Dannea's new house, shopped at the mall, ate lots of yummy food and just had a good time visiting.

The Next Day

Monday morning we said good-bye (for a few days) to all the barn animals and headed into town to meet my mom. She met us at the mall and took the kids shopping. They each picked out a Christmas present from her and visited with Santa. We had to beg and plead with Austin to get him in the Santa picture....but he finally agreed and we got a decent picture. When it was time to leave the mall we headed to Spring Creek Barbecue (a must have Texas stop for us). My Aunt Trish drove up from East Texas with my grandmother to spend the day with us. It was great having everyone together. And, I loved seeing the joy my grandmother got from being with all the kids. After lunch we headed to our hotel, so that we could all just spend time together and visit.

Mimi had more Christmas presents and so did Gangy. The girls had a blast opening all the new toys and spent the afternoon happily playing.
Gangy and Baby Gracyn

Gangy and Addison. Addison had really been looking forward to seeing her, and had even made a note for her at school that said, "I am thankful for Granny!". We were happy to give that to her.
My crew and Granny.
My nephew, in what is apparently his favorite Green-Martian shirt, and Gangy.

My cousin Miranda came by with her baby Kendall. Granny was happy to meet this great-great grand baby. Kendall and Gracyn had fun playing together.
Aunt Trish and my mom.

After Granny and Trish had to leave, we took the kids out to the hot tub. Since it was a balmy 85 degrees, they even braved the pool a few times.
Poor Gracyn.....not much napping on trips and she was a tired girl. See the 1/2 of my sister that made it into this picture. She was with us most of the day, but apparently hides from the camera!!! After the pool, we went to eat yummy Mexican food and then headed back to the hotel to put tired kids to bed.

Texas Travels

Gracyn is all loaded up in the suitcase and ready to hit the road to Texas. We pulled out Saturday morning at 2am. As is usually the case on our departure, the girls were super excited and didn't go back to sleep until around 4am and then only for about an hour. Still, we made the trip in 11 1/2 hours and happily piled out of the car Saturday afternoon. We unloaded, got a few wiggles out, said hello to all the animals and then jumped back in the car and drove into Lewisville to celebrate my baby cousin Brylee's first birthday. It was the beginning of MUCH running around Texas. We calculate a total of 40 hours spent in the car over the course of the week. After the party, we crashed early and finally got a good nights sleep. Unfortunantly Sunday morning came with me feeling yucky and Reagan telling me her ear hurt. She and I spent the morning at Urgent Care and left with 2 rounds of antibiotics. One for my strep-throat and one for her ear infection. Yuck, but we didn't let it slow us down much. By Sunday afternoon we were outside riding the horses. Gracyn has joined the ranks of her sisters and LOVES the "neigh-neighs". She especially loves to feed them carrots and apples. She was quite a sight waddling her way out to the barn each morning with fists full of carrots.

She is out of treats, but he is still checking her out and looking for more.
Addison rode in the saddle some, but she was insistent that she try bareback this time.
Reagan jumped back up for a quick bareback ride. She had a helmet on at some point....not sure where it is here.
They had a great day riding, feeding and grooming horses. Here is Gracyn after a full day....all cleaned up and ready for bed. Do you see that beautiful hair.....not stick straight and full of static? I may not like the humidity for my hair, but is sure does good for my girlies!

The Next Stop

We can't seem to get past the three year mark in our household. That is the record time we have ever been in one place, throughout the course of our 8 1/2 year marriage. That being said, I am super proud of my husband! Yesterday, he accepted a new role as Coke's National Account Executive for Kroger stores. It is a big, big job for him and I am so excited! He works really hard and does an amazing job providing for our family. He starts his new job January 1st, and it will require us to relocate to Cincinnati, Ohio! Good-bye mountains, hello mid-west.

We have known for almost a year that an upcoming move was inevitable. The Coke organization is going through a re-structuring and the new layout just doesn't off much opportunity in Denver. Though I have known a move was coming, Cincinnati was not really on our radar. We were a bit shocked last month, when they began talking to Tommy about it. At this point I have had several weeks to let the shock where off, do some research and start adjusting to the idea. We will have our house on the market just as soon as the relo people are ready (everything is taking forever due to the large number of people involved in this re-org). Tommy will probably be traveling back and forth some until we get the house sold and are ready for us all to head that way. We have narrowed down a town there, though neither of us have ever been to Ohio. It has been like that with all our moves. My first trip there is the house hunting trip! I am sure it won't be long before Tommy goes and can make sure we are on target with the area we picked.

So, many of you think we are crazy. And, in some ways, we probably are. But, this is just what we do. We made a deal early in our marriage that we wouldn't turn down promotions and that we would follow his career path, so that I could stay home with our kids. We always pray God's will over each move and ask him to guide us to the right place. Looking back I can see in each place we have been....Los Angeles, Phoenix, Houston and Denver, why God had us there. We have been blessed with great church homes and amazing friends in each of those cities. We keep in touch, go to visit, and have visitors from every place we have called home. Our marriage is stronger, because when we first arrive to a new place, we only have each other to depend on. I have seen so much of the world and experienced many things that I would never have gotten to see if I had stayed a Texas girl forever.

Denver has been a great experience for us. Though the winter is LONG and COLD, it really is an amazing place to live. It is beautiful. The sun shines bright, most every day. There is more to do than we have even had time to get to, and we have the most perfect neighborhood anyone could ask for. Though I never in a million years would have picked Denver, I could live here forever. The thing is though, that I would say that about all the places I have lived, and with the exception of California (because I wouldn't want to raise my kids there) I would move back to any of them in a heartbeat.

So that is the news. We are moving again. Crazy, yes! But, it is an adventure. Will it be hard to say good-bye, absolutely. Will I have a few months of loneliness and learning the ropes of a new place, sure. But, we have prayed long and hard about this. We are thankful that Tommy is receiving a promotion, while so many friends/co-workers are being let go, and we are excited to see what the future holds.

As for the girls, moving is always an on-going conversation at our house and they have been promised a trampoline at their new house. They rarely say a negative thing about moving. Addison is sad to leave her kindie teacher she adores, and Reagan once said she just wants a new house closer to Mackenzie (a neighbor that lives just down the street). They are excited and we tend to think moving will build character in them and provide them with some great life experiences. They LOVE snow, and never would have even seen it if we were still in Houston. I am praying everyday that we find them great schools and that they are blessed with teachers as loving and wonderful as they ones they have here. They are going to miss their friends like crazy, but like there Mommy and Daddy they will have great friends all over the country.

Remind me of this post and my perspective in a few months when I will most certainly go through a long period of loneliness and adjustment!!! :) And, I must admit, in all this moving I do hope someday to get back to the warmer locations on the map! Maybe a beach house will be next on our checklist!

30 Day Shred

I headed out to the gym a few nights ago, and I guess my girls were inspired by my efforts. I came back to find that they had changed into their gymnastics clothes and Tommy had turned on Jillian Michael's "30 Day Shred" for them. They were so serious about their workouts, right down to the round blocks they used for handweights. It has become a favorite after dinner activity and they ask us regularly to turn on their exercise! Looks like they figured out a way to burn all that winter energy we get cooped up in the house!

First Snow

Yesterday brought our first snow of the season! Thankfully this year, it was a light snow in November, not the 10 inches we had in October last year. The girls were so excited! I even loved it, since we were already home for the day and not needing to go anywhere. We turned on the fireplace, made some potato soup and enjoyed playing in the snow for the first time in awhile. Gracyn doesn't remember last year, so she was super excited and keep pointing everywhere saying, "More, more!". She played in it with her Daddy for quite a while and was a trooper in the cold!

My neighbor Michele picked all the girls up at the bus, loaded them in her van and brought them back to my house to play. Reagan and I were waiting on the front porch, camera ready, because I knew they would be thrilled!!!

Reagan loves the snow!
She stomped all around, while she waited for her sister.

Addison jumped out of the van super-excited and ready to play!

Baby Claire all bundled!

Soaking it up!!! Nora, Clara, Brenna, Addison and Ava saying "cheese"!

When Daddy got home, we dressed them a little better and he took them out back to have a snowball fight!

These precious hats almost make the cold worth it!!!

What's New

Reagan got a new bike! The girl brings clarity to the term "burning rubber". She has now blown through 2 back tires on her old 12 inch bike. She goes flying down hills and slams on her brakes and eventually burns holes in the tire. The 2nd tire finally gave on Friday. We had a 70 degree weekend upon us, and she was about ready for a new back, so off we went. She wanted blue and sparkly with Princess Tiana! Somehow we managed to find just that. The Neufeld's brought the girls giant lollipops from DisneyWorld. Addison and Reagan said, "Thank you". Gracyn said, "Mine, own, lolli!!!".

Everybody got haircuts! Addison had been asking for weeks and had hers done on Friday. She looks adorable, but so much older! It takes my breath away sometimes.
Reagan suddenly wanted hers cut too. I made her wait a few days, just to make sure she really wanted to do it. She got hers cut on Monday. It looks adorable. I was not so sure about letting them cut their hair at first, but seriously....it has shaved about 30 minutes off of my mornings. No more combing through crazy, matted tangles is nice!!!
It is snowing today! Our first snow of the season! Time to sit by the fire, watch the beautiful white flakes and make potato soup!

Lipstick

Look who played with Mommy's lipstick this morning! I actually knew she was doing it and thought it would be okay for her to play with an old tube, while I took a quick shower. Who knew how much she could actually cover herself with it, in just a short time. And, guess what? It doesn't come off that easily. 30 minutes in the bath, lots of soap and some make-up remover and she still has a little pink tint!

Halloween 2010

Halloween is well celebrated around here! We had a great time, then today, we boxed up the Halloween costumes, books, and decorations and bid them farewell until next year. The girls are eating candy every chance they get and already planning costumes for next year. Here is a run-down of the weeks events.

Trick or Treat off the Street at the Wildlife Experience. We have been to this every year, and it is a family favorite. They have crafts, games, and candy stations. Spin Art was probably this year's favorite.

The Lynch girls always host an afternoon party for the playgroup kids on the block. It is always a favorite. They see everyone's costumes for the first time, make yummy treats, do a craft and play games.
Addison's kindergarten had a party Friday that Gracyn, Reagan and I got to visit for. They made cookies with a giant overload of icing, played Halloween bingo, and wrapped their teacher up like a mummy.

Saturday afternoon, brought the annual block party. Tommy went as House....he is a great look alike for Dr. House. I wish I had a better picture. He was complete with a cane and a pill bottle of vicadin (gum)!

We locked the little ones outside, so we could really party!!! Just kidding, they were begging us to close the door on them. For some reason, it was the best game ever.

I tried to be the Dr. Cameron to Tommy's House. Note to all readers, the lab coat at party city IS NOT one size fits all! There could have been 3 of me in that jacket. Finally, for the grand finale!!! Trick or Treating. The Pyle's came and joined the neighborhood. We ordered pizza, had a quick dinner and then took some very excited girls outside. Addison and Kylie literally ran from house to gathering candy. They were so thrilled.

At some point, we ended up crossing paths with several nieghborhood friends. We headed, as a pack of 21, across the street to our friends Matt and Mary's house. They went to high school with Tommy, then lived a mile or two from us in The Woodlands. A few months after we moved here, an unrelated job opportunity came up for him and they moved a block away. So, we have never missed a year, trick-or-treating at their house.

Mary was surprised at the size of the group on her front porch!

Hope you all had a great Halloween! We all went to bed excited and happy.
